WoW Forever Beginner Guide: What to Know Before You Start

Learn what WoW Forever includes, how presets and rulesets work, and what to know about Skyborne, camping, Legacy progression and training.

Launch facts checked 5 November; the raid date is reported.

WoW Forever is a new permanent game with the original continents and a level cap of 60, included with a WoW subscription or Game Time. It launched globally on 4 November 2026; this WoW Forever beginner guide explains the choices and systems to know before you start.

Where Forever begins

The setting is after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. The global launch was at 3:00 p.m. PST, or 23:00 UTC, on 4 November 2026. Your subscription or Game Time includes the game, while optional paid editions are available.

Those editions are the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection. The distinction matters if you want to play a Skyborne character, because that race and its starting experience are tied to the Skyborne Heroic Pack and higher editions.

Choose your Experience Preset

At first login, you choose between the Classic and Enhanced Experience Presets. Blizzard recommends starting with Enhanced if you are unsure. You can change the settings later through Game Menu > Options, so this opening choice does not have to settle your preferences forever.

Each character can also use HD or SD models. That choice affects appearance only and can be changed later. Forever has gamepad support as well. Start with the options that appeal to you and adjust the changeable settings when you know your preferences.

Rulesets and character names

Forever uses rulesets instead of realms. The choices are Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP. Hardcore is planned for sometime after launch, so it is not one of the launch options. No more specific Hardcore date is confirmed in the launch information.

Each character has two names. Together, those names must be unique within a region. Think of the pair as your naming choice when creating a character, rather than considering only one part of the name.

Skyborne and Zephras Isle

The new Skyborne race, also called shen’dorei, starts on Zephras Isle for levels 1–12. Horde-aligned Windshapers can be Shaman, while Alliance-aligned High-Order Skyborne can be Mages. Access to the Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle start comes with the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition.

If Skyborne is the reason you are interested, check that edition requirement before planning your character. It is separate from the basic statement that Forever is included with a subscription or Game Time.

New character combinations and questing

  • New race and class combinations include Orc Mages and Troll Warlocks.
  • Other new combinations include Undead Paladins and Human Hunters.
  • Gnome Priests and Dwarf Shamans are also among the new combinations.

There are more than 1,000 new quests across levels 1–60. New or reimagined zones include Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle. The Riverglades has more than 150 new quests for the mid-30s to mid-40s.

How camping works

Cooking’s Basic Campfire becomes a shared campsite. Nearby players can add up to three profession-crafted Camp Features, with one feature contributed by each player. Sit or craft at the camp for at least 1 minute to receive the buffs.

The detail to remember is the time spent sitting or crafting. The camp is shared, and the features come from professions. If you want to explore the crafting side, Enchanting is one profession with camp items, including the Enchanted Lute, Arcane Salvager and Arcane Forge.

Legacy progression does not require alts

The Legacy System is account-wide horizontal progression, with Legacy Challenges, Perks and Rewards. Everything can be unlocked on one character. Alts are not required, so you can keep your attention on a single character if that is how you prefer to play.

Training and your action bars

The 2 November development notes put training class abilities from levels 1–60 at 206–207 gold total for every class. Warlock training was reduced to account for the expected Grimoire cost. Keep that total in mind when deciding what to spend early gold on.

The same notes say spells are no longer automatically added to action bars. If you are expecting that to happen, remember the change when checking your bars.

Treat early rankings and raid dates carefully

Early forecastNobody had played past level 30 before launch on 4 November 2026. Rankings for levels 31–60 are early forecasts from client data, not results from a completed live leveling experience. Read the list name and date alongside any class recommendation.

A raid opening date of 9 December 2026 is reported by endgametools. Blizzard’s 2 November development notes said raids would open next month, without confirming that specific date in those notes.

Blizzard also said a large tuning pass was expected once players leveled past 30, with no big tuning changes planned before raids except for bugs and outliers. Keep that uncertainty in mind when choosing from an early class list. Use the linked guides to compare the forecasts, plan early gold and decide whether Enchanting interests you.
